The digital transformation in public administration is clearly palpable, and the pace of digitization is accelerating. This is the conclusion drawn by our board member Armin Oppitz after this year’s Smart Country Convention (SCCON) in Berlin. This impression is reflected in the dominant trend topics of the event and reinforces Liongate’s strategic direction.
What were the top trends at SCCON 2025?
SCCON 2025 highlighted three key areas:
Cloud – The Foundation of Sustainable Digitization: The realization that a future-proof digital transformation in the public sector is only achievable with cloud solutions has become widespread. The cloud is no longer an option; it is the central pillar of modern IT infrastructures. Liongate confirms its role as a pioneer here, already providing tailored cloud solutions that address the challenges of tomorrow.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) – From Buzzword to Key Enabler: While AI is still often seen as a buzzword, SCCON made its immense potential for the public sector clear. From optimizing administrative processes to improving citizen services, AI will play a key role in the future. Liongate closely follows these developments and will actively participate in shaping and implementing meaningful AI applications.
Digital Sovereignty – Security and Independence through Open Source: Another central topic was digital sovereignty. Exciting impulses came from open-source initiatives, such as those being advanced in Schleswig-Holstein or nationwide through “opencode.” These approaches emphasize the importance of independence, transparency, and security in digital transformation. Liongate fully embraces these values and integrates them firmly into the development of its solutions.
A particular highlight of SCCON for Liongate was the panel discussion on “Collaboration in the Education System.” Armin Oppitz had the honor of exchanging valuable insights and perspectives alongside Leah Schrimpf, Dr. Kathrin Meyer-Pinger, Dr. Renata Suter, Dennis Richter, and Wenke Funke. This discussion emphasized the importance of cooperation and networking to successfully advance digitalization in education.
